The presentations are looming ever nearer, with this in mind I figured I would give a blog post including useful tips and errors I made during my presentation.
Clothing
I found that looking the part actually helped my presentation a lot. Even though some people might say “it’s just a suit” I found it helped me gain a lot more confidence which was one of the major problems I was worrying about before the presentation. Also the suit made people pay more attention to what I was saying as it looked more official. This would be my top tip, if you don’t have a suit buy one or borrow one from a friend.
Position
While doing the presentation I initially found it difficult to find the perfect position, however after a while I found standing slightly right of the interactive board was the best place to be as it allowed instant access to the computer if the interactive board wasn’t working properly, or if you need to show some code / an external file.
Things I should have done.
When I did the presentation I should have brought water with me, about half way through my throat went dry and I was having difficulty speaking. Also I didn’t bring information / memory cards with me because I thought I memorized the entire presentation, however I wish I had brought some because of the stress I forgot some of my lines.

After this final unit I will be helping my tutor mark the up coming presentations. To do this I have been recalling the time I did the final major presentation last year. Things that I showed things I should have showed etc.
The main things I will be looking for before the presentation has started.
How the have presented them selves ie clothing.
Time: Seeing if the participants arrive on time, punctuation is very important in the web industry and as this is a presentation it should be treated like a deadline.
During the presentation.
Progression: From the presentation I hope to see how the students have progressed from the first year on the course to the last.
Lessons: I would like to hear about lessons learned and if they could go back what would they do differently.
Online Learning journal: I would like to see some of the main posts of the journal, for example where I was, Where I am and Where I am going to be.
Sketchpad: I would like to see evidence of Idea generation and ideas in general.
Units: I would like to see all the major units of work which have been done over the two years on the course.
Experience: I would like to hear about the experiences throughout the course and what they have achieved as a result.
Work: If they think they are ready to work in the media industry.
W3C: What do they think about W3C and the W3C rules.
Accessibility & Usability:I would like to hear what accessibility and usability means to each student.
Skills: Which skills are they best at Design or Coding.
Length
I will be looking at the length of the presentation, if a presentation falls short by over half the time it’s meant to be it will tell me the student hasn’t studied for the presentation.

Three years on the course has been leading up to this moment, although I’m slightly nervous I have been looking forward to this assignment.
Finally I will be working for real clients in real working conditions. Not only will this give me a chance to see what it’s like working in the industry. Although my end goal is to be a coder the geek side to design, in this assignment I will be a designer. I am really happy about this, as it will give me chance to air brush my design skills before I leave college and go into the industry. This assignment will also help my portfolio a considerable amount, as I will have more print and web work to show at the end of it.
Although this assignment is working for clients, I am aware that I can do everything the client requires and still not pass the assignment. So at all times during this final stage I will be keeping an eye out on the assignment requirements.
Goals
To understand more about the industry.
To see what it’s like working with clients.
Working under a constrained time.
Air brush my skills before employment.
To improve both my coding and design skills before employment.
Gain real working experience.
